Good interview, some good stuff there. But it was so awkward how clearly Jimmy is madly in love with Bruce and how Bruce clearly thinks Jimmy's, you know...okay. ish.
@The Imposter My apologies--you're right about the last line, I just hadn't picked up that that's what you were saying.
Although I don't think it was tongue-in-cheek in the least on Jimmy's part, or if it was, that it was in a playful manner. I think he was really trying to be all buddy-buddy in an entirely sincere way, like an overly enthusiastic puppy, and Bruce wasn't pretending to be humble, he was embarrassed by Jimmy's overly familiar approach.
Bruce hasn't always come off that well on talk shows, in my opinion--he's out of his element and I don't think he likes them, whereas Q&As with an intelligent rock critic I think he can find interesting and enjoyable.
But there's a difference with different talk show hosts. I think he genuinely likes and respects Conan and Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I have heard he wasn't crazy about Letterman's style of humor, but Jimmy Fallon in particular just seems like an overly eager little kid, and I don't think it's a good fit for Springsteen's preferences. Bruce has made little secret of his ego this century, but it's also clear he doesn't like to be fawned over--it makes him really uncomfortable. And I think that's what was happening here.
Was that clearer? (Honestly asking--I know I can be unclear and, often, the more I try the less successful I am.)
