Hi everyone. Barring any delay we're set to get Archive #58 on Friday, so what do you think it will be and what do you want it to be?
Three shows that immediately come to my mind are August 20th, 1981, June 21st, 2012, and October 27th, 2002. How about you?
And if anybody happens to enjoy reading about these releases, I've heard these reviews aren't completely awful: https://cantfindtickets.wordpress.com/category/live-downloads-archive-series-reviews/ (At least I waited 2 hours 😁).
Well, we are quiet in this space. I guess everyone's more involved in the tour news and trying to score tickets (if in Europe).
This activity may still potentially cause a delay, I suppose. The countdown is on so I guess an announcement of any delay will be soon.
Let's assume not... I'm going either Darkness tour, or at the polar opposite a D&D show. If Darkness, I'm going Passiac 3. If D&D... who knows, they are presumably all recorded. But I'd be hoping for something with some tour debuts given the eclectic nature of those set lists.
@Mario Brega how did you get to expect Sheffield 1988... you haven't been tapped to write a review again, have you?
Elsewhere, (well, Oily Waterbody), someone has hinted at a European show pre Reunion. Which fits in with Mario's expectation.
If it is TOL, I'll go through the usual process. 'Do I really need another show with the same songs in largely the same order?' I might leave it a day, read the positive reviews, decide to splurge. Next is 'Wow, the nuances in Tunnel, the differences in Seeds, this BITUSA outro solo is off the fuckin charts'. Infact, so far I have reasonably clear favourite shows from each tour based on personal set list tastes. TOL is much harder, as the nuances are in the performances, and in spite of (or because of?) a tightly almost scripted set list, the nuances are more pronounced than almost any other tour. At least with the releases so far. Stockholm 88 is in my top 5 all time Archive releases... is there another European show which, despite set list similarities, actually tops it due to performance nuances?
Speaking of which, Brucebase states that Sheffield night 2 is the first time Spare Parts was played in the second set on the tour. Yet their posted setlist for Night 1 also has it in the second set?!?
Expecting Sheffield 1988 next week, but man I was listening to the newest None But The Brave podcast episode yesterday and I'd love some Magic.
I'll take it. I would have preferred Baltimore, but I am looking forward to downloading it.
also.....
Putin go fuck yourself.
That would be a poignant release, especially if Bruce donated his profit to aid Ukraine.
Well, looks like I was right and then wrong.
Seems all quiet on the rumour front, nothing at all on either BTX or elsewhere from any of those sneaky folks who sometimes get a sniff of what's coming.
That makes me nervous, complete radio silence brings the old 'delay twitter post' worries into play.
I'm ready for another Seeger tour show.
I was listening to the New Orleans Jazz Festival release today and I do have one criticism of Bruce. I think it was overly-sensitive to the point of being a chickenshit move that he dropped the word black from the "and what happened to your poor folks" line in front of an audience that probably had the highest percentage of black people he's ever played to. For me, it's the line that draws clear the way racism has effected everything from infrastructure to disaster relief in this country.
Always stick to your guns, if you strapped them on for justice.
I'm hearing inklings that it's one of the Anaheim shows from 2000.
Hopefully Night Two!
Archive Series back in action tomorrow, so soon after December 23rd!
Hoping for something from 2009, honestly. It's been a while.
Putting the finishing touches on this year's Archive Top 10 (until I'm likely thrown back to step 1 on Friday) and out of this 66 song playlist I've got, a great joy is playing a song I initially think "does this really need to be in here?" about, and remembering why I had it down as a maybe in the first place.
P.S. that song is "Land of Hope and Dreams" from June 27th, 2000, but I'm not telling if it'll be in the blog or not 😉
Work has officially started on my New Year's Day possibilities for 2022 (and the Series' Top 10 songs of 2021) blog post. I've got my top 10 just about set, before the potential Christmas bonus makes me start from scratch, and I'm personally happy with the shows I've selected as shouts for the New Year. You lot know I don't like to praise my own work, regardless of how much I share it, but I've gotta say I'm very happy with how it's going, and I'm really looking forward to January 1st so you can all have a chance to check it out 🙂
I am hoping for a nice surprise on Christmas.
I do have to admit, the only things I ever look forward to are the classic shows 80/81 or 84/85. I might be excited for a another Magic or D and D show. Maybe a Joad. But I am in general bored with the Reunion era to be honest.
There is zero evidence or even rumour that this show was recorded in multi track, but oh my giddy aunt... what a killer arrangement and performance.
And @Mario Brega, check out who's sharing Patti's mic in the last few moments. WTF, never noticed the dude sing backing in 35 plus years of fandom, now have two examples in two weeks.
Currently playing Tempe 1980, in my opinion one of the greatest E street shows of all time.
"Holiday goodies"...."in the oven".... CW Post 1975 first December Friday and then 28 Dec 1980 around Xmas Eve, anyone?
Anyone anticipating a release this week so fast on the heels of last month's latecomer? Anyone think it will be a River or Born To Run show?
"Cross your fingers" is apparently our hint, and apparently we're getting a release today (I expected the digital No Nukes tbh).
Any ideas what "Crossing fingers" suggests?
I think they changed horses in mid stream. Another show will be ready soon I feel.
Do any of you buy other artist's releases from Nugs?
I've purchased a couple each from Fogerty and Hornsby.
I would wager it's Sony that feels the need to protect its heavily-marketed to the general public release from a conflicting release that only the hardcore will buy. You know, the people who will get both.
The digital release of No Nukes is due out next week - I'm pretty sure - and I guess they don't want a clash of any sort. If that sounds ridiculous, I agree.
So, nothing today, but I think it's nice that last month gave us reason to keep hoping this deep into the day.
We'll see what happens in the next hour.
For once.
we will see....a flury of "Inc" activity usually signals a delay. I am hoping. I will be in the field today. We will see.
I'm not sure if I've got the right thread now... I think the Random Archive Thoughts has become a pseudo 'what's next?' Home recently.
First Friday for October is imminent... what do people think? Based on time since last tour release (and ignoring The Rising tour which it appears they have just given up on) I'd say either The River 80/81 or Magic. I'm thinking maybe they'll go Magic this month and then The River for November as part of the No Nukes movie build-up. But, then again, I unsuccessfully predicted 28 December 1980 about three months running earlier this year so what do I know.
I was previously of the view that less was more when it came to the band on stage. This tour showed how wrong I was. Every show I caught was a celebration.
I really think the WB tour is a high point of sorts. The shows all had this feeling about them that just blew me away. I enjoyed all the shows I attended as well as all the boots. Looking forward to this one.
I am also surpised they are back on track. Looking forward to a River show in September.
According to Backstreets twitter, new archive tomorrow!!!
According to the hint, it is rumored to be Fenway Park (Boston) night 2 in 2012.
A truly incredible show.
2012-08-15 - FENWAY PARK, BOSTON, MA
THUNDER ROAD / HUNGRY HEART / SHERRY DARLING / SUMMERTIME BLUES / GIRLS IN THEIR SUMMER CLOTHES / WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN / TWO HEARTS / WRECKING BALL / DEATH TO MY HOMETOWN / MY CITY OF RUINS / KNOCK ON WOOD / DOES THIS BUS STOP AT 82ND STREET? / THUNDERCRACK / FRANKIE / PROVE IT ALL NIGHT / DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN / WORKING ON THE HIGHWAY / SHACKLED AND DRAWN / WAITIN' ON A SUNNY DAY / BACKSTREETS / BADLANDS / LAND OF HOPE AND DREAMS - PEOPLE GET READY / WHO'LL STOP THE RAIN - ROCKY GROUND / BORN TO RUN / DETROIT MEDLEY / DANCING IN THE DARK / QUARTER TO THREE / TENTH AVENUE FREEZE-OUT / AMERICAN LAND (with Ken Casey)
First night in Boston may have been relatively standard, but Bruce really mixes things up on night two with 18 songs not played the previous night and plenty of rarities. "Thunder Road" opens, performed by Springsteen accompanied only by Roy. A quartet of summer songs follows, including the second "Summertime Blues" of the tour. A surprising Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood" makes its sole tour appearance, only previously played with the E Street Band on April 29, 1976. "Thundercrack", "Frankie" and "Prove It All Night" (with 1978 intro, for the first time in the United States since 1980) follow. If that's not enough, "Backstreets" includes a "Dream Baby Dream" interlude. "Two Hearts" includes "It Takes Two". A solo acoustic "Who'll Stop The Rain" opens an encore set that also features "Detroit Medley", "Quarter To Three" (with "I'm a prisoner of rock 'n' roll!") and "American Land" with Ken Casey from Dropkick Murphys. Patti Scialfa is not present.
My predictions, with absolutely zero analysis and only slightly more thought:
August: D&D
September: River tour
October: Magic tour
November: Wrecking Ball 2013 or Joad
December: the 75 show where the official Santa comes from. Xmas Bonus: a 2009 full BTR or Darkness show (or, if November is Joad, then a 2013 WB show).
Probably be proven wrong within a week...
Good news! ☺
Email from Nugs:
Unfortunately, there have been some delays in approvals for the latest Bruce releases, as Bruce personally approves all audio and artwork and is currently performing nightly on Broadway. We are still planning to have a July release, by the end of the month, and an August release as early as possible next month.
So we will see.
Yes, the download expires after 48 hours.
I love/hate thursdays witing for a friday release. I am seeing pessimism on BTX today, between jokes and outright frustration that July's release may not happen.
I will not give in to that feeling, taking a longer view on the series in general.
Gonna listen today, and enjoy what is before being sad over what isnt, and what may be delayed.
All hail this remarkable archive series.
I must be getting too old to get into all the fan-concocted "controversies" surrounding each rumor and release. I'm also not an avid viewer of the DVDs. I watch them once or twice when they come out, rip the audio for my listening pleasure and maybe revisit the videos every once in a while. I'm more interested in the motivation behind releasing the No Nukes show now and why, with all the video Bruce and Sony must have, put out this somewhat brief set over a standard tour show?
Now, concerning the archive release being pulled, I do think people who purchased the show, but never downloaded (even though I think you're weird if that's you) should have been given a window of opportunity to do so before it was removed. Now, the bottom line is this, though: when you purchase an archive show, you are aware that your download rights expire, so why wouldn't a buyer download immediately?
The only part of it all that matters to me is Tracks 2. That long-overdue set should not be pushed back for a strangely-timed release of a 1979 performance, no matter how good the video is.
Number 4 on the top 5 is an empty box.
The plot is thickening by the minute...
Rumors are flying about No Nukes being released and how to release it, whether to delay Tracks 2 for the third time.
All of this this overthinking must be difficult.
Meanwhile, a really simple thing of mixing, mastering, and releasing Giants Stadium '85 cannot be done even remotely in a timely way. It's so bad that the info was provided to nugs and it was reported to us on the various boards as a keenly interesting clue, and then not actually released.
I am kinda kidding but then kind of not kidding.
I'm so sick of chain yankers.
Update from BTX: The hint given by the source was "way before Nirvana"
“Way before Nirvana” is a line from Bowling For Soup’s song 1985, which talks about how people are still preoccupied with 1985.
So, 1985?? Giants Stadium 8/31/85 would do nicely as it has "Darlington County" and "Downbound Train".
1985-08-31 - GIANTS STADIUM, EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ
BORN IN THE U.S.A. / BADLANDS / OUT IN THE STREET / JOHNNY 99 / SEEDS / ATLANTIC CITY / THE RIVER / TRAPPED / WORKING ON THE HIGHWAY / DARLINGTON COUNTY / GLORY DAYS / THE PROMISED LAND / MY HOMETOWN / THUNDER ROAD / COVER ME / DANCING IN THE DARK / HUNGRY HEART / CADILLAC RANCH / DOWNBOUND TRAIN / I'M ON FIRE / GROWIN' UP / BOBBY JEAN / THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND / BORN TO RUN / TWO HEARTS (with Steven Van Zandt) / RAMROD (with Steven Van Zandt) / TWIST AND SHOUT - DO YOU LOVE ME (with Steven Van Zandt) / JERSEY GIRL (with Steven Van Zandt) / SHERRY DARLING (with Steven Van Zandt) / STAND ON IT (with Steven Van Zandt)
Live premiere of "Stand On It". Little Steven joins for the final encores. "Growin' Up" features the bear story. "Twist And Shout" includes "La Bamba" as well as "Do You Love Me". "Sherry Darling" includes a snippet of "Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!" in the outro. Final tour appearance for "Two Hearts".
A poster on BTX says a reliable and familiar person told them we are getting a show tomorrow. We should be "Thankful". That part is the hint I'd say. I won't get too excited yet.
We need Magic shows. Lots and lots of Magic shows.
Does anybody expect that any Vote For Change sets will be released in the series?
I predict an easy one on July 9th, maybe a good Devils show, lets face it there wasnt a bad one, each one has the imprint of quality as he jumped into the depths of his song book...then in August we may get a River show. I'd never say No to London 6/4, but I think July 6th from NJ needs a release. That version of Racing is so sublime...
What the latest archive show has taught me is that there is magic in any night he chooses to give us. Hell, I am even digging Boston 92 with it's good vibes. I can tell that younger version of myself that time heals all ills. And so it goes,
I need both Wembley '81 on (let's say) July 9th, and England to get to the final of the Euros on the 11th. I've just realised I could squeeze an "it's coming home" reference into my review.
Per BTX
"New "Darkness" show from Berkeley, Ca airing on SiriusXM at noon!"
Ha'way everyone, we need to up our posting game on this forum. I've made four posts on Greasy Lake tonight. FOUR!
Maybe. See when you do log in, you know the three wee dots top right, when you hit them is there a "desktop site" option?
Is it checked?
I always struggle to get on here on my phone, for some reason it freaks out and logs me out constantly. But I came here just to support my pyjammies propaganda once more.
So I'm finishing up my write-up of Sunrise 2014, and it just so happens to feature the first time Bruce says "pyjammies!" on a Live Downloads release. I've just written my excerpt for "Shout" and while I'm certain it'll leave everyone who reads it saying "is he taking the piss?", I'm going to stand my ground and leave it as is.
Still, am I ok to blame you @rachelharms if the backlash becomes too severe? After all you were really the minister of "PYJAMMIES!" propaganda back in 2017...
Not the 1992 show I've been waiting for, but with Soul Driver and Real World, it's close enough for me. Can't wait to grab this after work tonight.
No news yet.
