It suddenly crossed my mind how much bigger thing this silver medal would have been in my mind if one of the Springsteen-kids would have won it in any other sport like swimming, athletics, gymnastics, wrestling or canoe. Before anyone blow their top, I am sure showjumpers are great athletes, physical fit, skillful and all that.
I think you are right. I really enjoy watching showjumping, always have, and when I was a teenager it was really popular on TV, but it gets no coverage at all now outside of the Olympics. The BBC commentators said what a lot of attention Jess has been getting - she would have had even more if Mum & Dad had been able to travel to Tokyo.
First goldmedal for the Swedish team since 1924. Big news over here. And "silver medal for Bruce Springsteen's daughter and the American team". She gets a whole lot of media coverage because her father, but that's a double-edged sword, I guess.
@MagicRatAFC it was on the red button, but they cut away 5 mins before Jess because GB are out of it!! Jess got 4 faults and USA currently in silver medal position.
I wondered whether that was the case as I seem to remember from previous years that there are teams of 3 not 4. Good luck to her, let's hope she at least makes the team!
Sure is. I’m utterly exhausted and it’s barely 8 o’clock! Now kayaking. Mrs D still has hers hanging up in the garage……….🤔 Might drag it into the front room and sit in it while watching.
Biles, a black woman coming from a country obsessed with winning, stepping down for the reasons she did is truly inspiring. I’m so glad she did it. Both for her well-being and for the example she has set.
Not the Olympics I know, but following on from above ^, the recently finished Tour De France is my favourite sporting event of the year....(mind you the last two years it may have been JUST eclipsed by The Calcutta Cup).
Used to watch the Tour back in the day with Roche, Pantani etc but the whole drugs thing completely soured it for me. And I suspect it is no different now, the drugs have just got smarter.
I think the individual qualifying event is on Tuesday 3rd , with the final on 4th .The team event is 6th qualifying, final 7th. All start at 11am UK time.
I don't know whether Jess will feature in the individual as well as the team.
I've just realised that while the free to air network here only has two channels running simultaneously on actual broadcast TV (which will heavily favour only events featuring Australia, at least until we get to Week 2 and the athletics), on the network's related 'on demand' app they are making available basically everything and anything that is on at the time. So where there's a will there's now a way for these Olympics.
We'll get swimming swimming and more swimming here as that is one of Australia's strongest pursuits. And I have to say, I actually don't mind watching it either.
Not sure what free to air coverage of the horsie events will be like here... any one know what day / time Jessica's events are?
David Broome, Harvey Smith, Paul Shockemole, Horse of the year show.......small boys, jumpers for goalposts........

Silver for Jess and the US team. Some great shots of her looking very happy!
Glory Days!
USA in a jump off for the gold medal. It's been a really exciting competition when I have been able to catch it!
Must admit to having a tear in my eye when Laura Muir finished her race and spoke afterwards...so deserved.
Really enjoying the diving.
Jessica will be competing later this morning in the team show jumping, hope to catch that.
Gonna start practicing my kick-flip nose-grinds. This park skateboarding is incredible!
Isn’t Michael Johnson an absolute god!? Got a bit of a (non-sexual) man-crush.
That was in the individual event?
It seems to be in the team event the U.S. has their best medal chance ( no clue how this works, only going on the bookies' odds 😁).
Jessica hasn't qualified for the final round - she finished 31st, but, if I read the results correctly, she was the highest placed American.
Our swim team has absolutely done Australia proud this Olympics. Well done to all.
I was reading that Jess still has to qualify to take part.
There's four selected but there's a qualifying process and only the best three compete in both the team and individual events.
She's 40/1 to win the individual event, the U.S. are a little better than 2s (23/10 from memory) second favs to win the team event.
See you down the BMX park later @whispered secret ?
wind surfing with very little wind looks like very hard work!
10,000 metres. The proper Olympics have started……….😈
BMX very exciting - today's discovery!
When's Jess and her cuddy on the go?
Isn’t canoeing brilliant!

Highlight so far, accepting its early days: women’s road race. Fantastic performance from Austria‘s Anna Keisenhofer to take gold.
Hello everyone! I am excuted
BBC Scotland.......unlucky
I have historic, fitba related, beef with McLaughlin......so screw him.

I'll keep an eye out for Junior and the 'orse but generally the time difference is going to make live watching tricky.
