Sorry guys.... Beautiful Spring day here so I had to get out there and gets some miles in.... Was fantastic... But my phone never stopped buzzing with alerts from this place... 😂
It's awful quiet round here this morning. I am about to head out for breakfast with a friend - I hope when I get back the revolution will not have started, as happened last week!
I've checked in a few times since I got home from work. My 2 hours sleep got me through a long day, but I'm actually fading out and I'm trying to finish my staff schedule before I close my eyes.
Well I guess JF finally got to sleep, as he's gone quiet.
We had a cat who was a dreadful scavenge, but he was a hopeless hunter. The best thing he brought home was a full packet of 6 bread rolls - I think they must have been delivered to someone's doorstep. He always nicked a mince pie at Christmas. His brother was more of a hunter - mice mostly, which I didn't like.
Since I don't do pot or take Nyquil ( whatever that is) I can't say. Infact, not sure why I'm even responding, I've got exactly zero useful contribution to this.
Baby bunnys were our fella's main target. Funny thing was, he'd only bring us half. I was never sure which was worse, the top half with the lifeless eyes or the bottom half with the......'emissions'. Neither was pleasant.
She doesn't get birds often. This is only the second I can remember. I do like that she gets alot of rodents. I did not like waking up with a bloody mole head on my pillow.
I'm not gonna make my bedtime. I went outside for a smoke and a walk around the property and I tripped and broke a water spout. Found the valve box and it was filled with hard packed dirt so I had to dig it out only to find...no valve. I figured it's in the next box up the line. Had to dig that out. At least, I was right and the valve was there. It wouldn't budge. Had to get some wrenches. Got the water turned off to that spout finally and all I could think of was getting back inside, downing some orange soda and taking a few bedtime puffs and a shower. Instead, I found feathers. Lots of fucking feathers. Momma Kitty is a serial killer. She absolutely has to have at least one kill a night and she brings every one inside for show and tell.
@Daisey Jeep Your toby is the main valve. It shuts off the water to the entire property. A spout is a spicket (outside tap). There are about two dozen around this property and each one has its own valve to shut off the water to just that spicket or a group of spickets or sprinklers.
Spot on @MagicRatAFC . I had a vague hope early on that we could press pause and work out a better way to live, but the rush to 'get things back to normal' has been too depressing.
I think we might have answered the question about a politics thread in the last hour or so!
I think a rise is/was inevitable as lockdown eases. God knows when this all ends. I'd hope the main, primary, obvious lesson to be learned from this affair is that running a socio-economic infrastructure on a short-termist, non-interventionist, free-market-rules-all basis, with no safety net or support mechanism infrastructure, leaves you a bit vulnerable.
I see it every day at work. Guests walking up to be seated without masks, coming in to use the rest room without mask. I try to enforce what I can, but I'm in the kitchen and I'm busy. The owners are permitting large parties, unmasked guests and not providing a safe workplace. Our patio is full all day long, hugging, kissing, eating from other people's plates. It's terrible.
Yes, same here. Stratford really looked and felt no different to a regular August apart from people donning masks to go into shops - which has been very well observed from my observations. Distancing seems to have largely gone out the window though and, of course, we were encouraged to eat out with a government subsidy of £10 off meals, which meant pubs and restaurants were really busy.
I was expecting/hoping things to get better here with the weather warming up. What I have been surprised about is seeing people go about like this whole thing is history and completely over. On Saturday night went past a restaurant/club that was jam packed with people, no masks, kissing and hugging hello....
This seems to be the problem everywhere. People socializing heavily during the Summer, especially younger people. This is supposed to be one of the reasons for lower mortality at the moment.
Infection rates on the rise again here, but the mortality rate is drastically down. September/October look to be crucial as schools and colleges open up and we are unable to socialise outside as the weather turns colder.
If our official stats are to be believed, we have seen the worst of the initial spike. Our numbers have dropped considerably and we've slipped from #5 to #7 globally.
Morning! Sunny and warm here in Ljubljana, nights are getting colder, and I have to already wear a jacket in the morning.
Over all status here: Covid numbers increasing rapidly again, as they are all across Europe. Kids started school on Tuesday, no one knows how this will effect our local trend.
Politicians doing their best, with clear signal that we can not afford another total lockdown. Idiots protesting every Friday because masks are obligatory.
I have just read an interview with Camilla about domestic violence (she wasn't accusing Charles, so you needn't worry!) She came across as quite sympathetic.
i think she is doing a good job highlighting less glamouse causes, i think she has said that she had some freinds who have been through it. i think its what she talked about when she visited the womans prison in Tawa when she came to visit last
It's 20 to 9am here, about to make coffee cup #3, trying to frantically get final August numbers out for one of my clients before the days endless Zoom and Teams meetings get going. I can still wear sweatpants at least...! We had some properly cold weather here at the start of the week but yesterday and today it looked like Spring was finally going to make an effort to break through. Was, by our standards, a long, very cold and bleak winter.
Hello JF, feeling very Autumnal here, still dark when I woke up at 5.45. the days are closing in on the summer that never was.
Morning TJ, that's certainly a depressing thought. I am really concerned about the increase in use of our Food Bank. I have done 2 shifts this week with another today and it's busier than ever.
I don’t know if it’s interesting as much as it is depressing but I ran into an article saying it takes someone 20 years of things going just right to get out of poverty.
After a 5am wake up, I didn’t have the courage to open the link.
I'm here. It's still prime time for me. An hour or so home from work, listened to idiot's Delight a few times, got a nice buzz. The nights are just beginning to cool off, but the days remain brutally hot. I love these hours when the neighborhood is so quiet and there's a coolness in the air.
Morning Steve. Now I can't think of anything interesting to say!
Although, I did catch an interesting programme on the radio yesterday about the alcohol ban in SA. I confess to not paying too much attention, but what was it like?
@SteveInJoburg It is sad what it tells us. Same with school shootings. We went from about one every week or two here in the States to none since the pandemic. It takes a deadly virus outbreak to stop kids from shooting up their classmates and teachers.
I spent minutes and minutes pondering how a guy named Tom Joad ended up with a D for an avatar and then your real name popped into my head and it was self-congratulations all around on what a genius I am for figuring that out.
Of course, silly me, and I went off and read the paper. Chatting with you would probably have done more for my mood...
Early evening, Pacific time is Radio Nowhere 'round here.
Hello - its 10.52 on a wild and stormy tursday
Hi @Daisey Jeep I missed you too! I think I had a good Saturday, but you might have meant Sunday and now its Monday I believe!
I found Kent Guitar and invited him
I really have to figure out those alerts. 😆. There are a few too many.

Sleep well JF.
I am!
is there anybody alive out there ?

How am I still awake? How much pot and Nyquil does it take to put down a 54 year old nocturnal insomniac mental case?
Baby bunnys were our fella's main target. Funny thing was, he'd only bring us half. I was never sure which was worse, the top half with the lifeless eyes or the bottom half with the......'emissions'. Neither was pleasant.
Two doses of Nyquil and I'm ready to sleep, only an hour after my intended bedtime. G'night.
JF do you put a bell on your cats? We did when we had our fella. He was a hunter also, so this was our attempt to protect the wild birds.

And now the shower's woke me right up.
I agree with you TJ. The property market is booming again apparently, but homes should be homes, not investments.

I am not holding my breath.
Well some Tory MP's husband over here has said it's a mental illness - go figure that one out!
Did we dream the whole damn thing??

HI Daisey,
I have just read an interview with Camilla about domestic violence (she wasn't accusing Charles, so you needn't worry!) She came across as quite sympathetic.
Good evening all
On coffee #2 here at 7.45am, and happy I no longer have to go to work. There are a few advantages to being old!
I have a feeling we are heading for a long, bleak winter.

Have we drifted into politics....?
